"Pets As Therapy" is a registered charity in the UK which has over 4,500 dogs registered. The P.A.T. scheme provides therapeutic visits to hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes, special needs schools and a variety of other venues by volunteer owners and their pets. Many patients while undergoing tratment or long term care become isolated from the outside world and the companionship of an undemanding animal, that gives unconditional love, is often one of the most missed aspects of their lives.

Obviously to qualify, the PAT scheme demands the highest standards of health, temperament, suitability and stability. These qualities are checked by qualified PAT assessors and also veterinary professionals. Working as a volounteer for the P.A.T scheme is a wonderful way to pass on a small piece of the enjoyment of owning a dog to others in need.
