Novaforesta - Kennel name.

We have now heard from the Kennel Club that they have accepted our choice of kennel name " Novaforesta". The name is a reference to the New Forest (now a National Park) where we live in the south of England. The New Forest is however not new nor is it all forested. The term Nova Foresta comes from the Latin for new hunting ground and was first designated as such in 1079 by King William I (the Conquerer) to preserve the mix of open heath and woodland for royal hunting. William, Duke of Normandy gained the crown after defeating King Harold at the battle of Hastings in 1066 so the area has links to France going back almost a thousand years. The Nova Foresta is also mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, which was an inventory commissioned by William of all his land and subjects. To this day, many of the laws passed by William to protect his hunting grounds are still in force and ponies, deer, cattle and some pigs are still found roaming free.
