A barbet in the UK!!! With Christmas and the New Year out of the way, the decorations were taken down with undue haste and our thoughts turned to France. Having already decided to return to the UK via the Channel Tunnel with Betsy, it costed out much cheaper to go over that way despite living 20 minutes from the ferry terminal for the Poole - Cherbourg route to get to Nantes where we had arranged to meet to pick up Betsy. Nicole and Dominique had kindly agreed to drive up to Nantes for the hand over and so save us several hundreds of kilometers driving down to their home near Bordeaux. We finally got away just after 1pm on the 3rd Jan and made good progress before stopping for the night a few hours from Nantes.

The following day we met Nicole and Dominique as arranged near Nantes airport. It was lovely to see Betsy again and she seemed to remember us from the previous summer and even jumped into our car while we were sorting out her paperwork and settling up the last vets fees for ticks and worming treatment which is needed prior to entry to the UK and had been sorted by Nicole the previous day. It was a slightly emotional goodbye for Nicole as the last of her litter finally left so we didn`t prolong the experience, but agreed to meet up when we are next in France so she will certainly get to see Betsy again. We made good progress heading back to Calais, made easier by Betsy lying down and sleeping when we were on the road. Frequent stops gave us all a chance for a stretch of the legs and toilet stops. Arriving in Calais, any concerns we had with getting Betsy into the UK were gone within 5 minutes at the Pet Passport control desk.

All her paperwork was exactly as required and so six months and one day after she passed her rabies blood test Betsy boarded the Channel Tunnel train bound for Dover. A quick 'woof' at an automatic door closing was the sole disturbance on the crossing made worry free by being able to stay with our car and Betsy throughout. We arrived back home just before midnight and after Betsy gave the house a good sniff we all collapsed for a well earned sleep after what for us was a 1,000 mile round trip. And so a new chapter begins for the barbet in Great Britain !
